Common Cattail

Cattails are fairly common out in bogs or ponds. They have sword like leaves that sprout a spike of dense brown flowers, that look like a cat’s tail. They can range anywhere from three to six feet out in the wild, and are ideal for providing a habitat for natural wildlife. They can however be invasive and may spread if it isn’t contained by liner or deep water.

Variegated Dwarf Sweet Flag

Sweet Flag gets it’s name from a sweet smell that comes from the leaves. They are best suited for water gardens or bog due to their high moisture requirements. The thin grass-like leaves usually are green with the edge of them being a tanbronze color, but can be other colors.

Giant Egyptian Papyrus

Papyrus is a tropical plant that produces wheat colored flowers that bloom among its tall, triangular stems in summer. It grows best in full sun and in wet soil or in water up to 6 inches deep. Papyrus may be over-wintered indoors if the containers are kept standing in water.
