Cyphotilapia frontosa “Six Stripe”
Frontosas have an attractive blue color with several dark vertical bars. Most specimens have 6 bars. However there is a color variety that has 7 bars (called a seven banded frontosa). Males develop a large bump on their head. Frontosas, when kept with suitable non-nipping tank mates, will develop beautiful, long, flowing finnage. They are slow growing and often do not reach their full size for many years. In the wild, the Frontosa feed at night, scooping sleeping fish off the sandy Tanganyikan floor. In the aquarium, feed them brine shrimp, cichlid flakes, and pellets . As they get larger add in earthworms, krill and larger pellets. A very attractive cichlid with a very noble attitude.
